Status and Roadmap Notes
Overview
The TTRPG is a companion project to the core world-building work in The Resonance Cosmos. It translates settled setting canon into table-facing procedures, but it does not define setting canon, and its own planning does not belong in 00_Admin/Project_Notes.adoc, which now tracks only the world-building roadmap.
This document holds the TTRPG shelf’s current build status and next steps until the project has a dedicated TTRPG roadmap of its own.
Current Status
-
Shelf structure: The TTRPG shelf has been expanded and normalized into numbered documents. Current central documents include Overview: TTRPG, System Design Principles, Core Resolution, Character Foundations, Talents, Burdens and Bonds, Conditions, Combat Exchanges, Equipment Tags, Ranged Combat and Distance, Nonlethal Combat and Capture, Threat Templates, Magic Under Pressure, Scale Conflict and Vehicles, Rules Data Model, and Encounter Test Package.
-
Core system status: The core
d10dice-pool system, outcome bands, high-match effects, low-match pressure, Talent tier edge, condition-based harm, combat exchanges, nonlethal capture, threat templates, magic-under-pressure, force-scale conflict, vehicle/vessel conflict, and encounter calibration package are all drafted enough for targeted playtest. Current balance snapshots in Encounter Test Package put equal-tier danger scenes broadly in the intended range, with improvised capture intentionally lower than ordinary victory. -
Ranged and tactical subsystem status: Ranged Combat and Distance now includes theatre-of-mind distance bands, metric-first tactical measurement for grid/hex/freeform/CRPG use, movement modes (
Step,Move,Rush,Sprint), focus-era range profiles, weapon range profiles, targeting states (Clear Line,Obscured,Concealed,Hidden,Locked,Spoofed or Veiled), detection and stealth procedures, cover/exposure guidance, suppression/area threat guidance, and ammunition/charge/heat resource states (Ready,Spent,Low,Empty,Overheated or Unstable). -
CRPG-readiness status: Rules Data Model now tracks structured rule objects for distance bands, movement modes, weapon range profiles, targeting states, detection methods, resource states, combat exchanges, threats, conflict scales, vehicles/vessels, system damage, and related objects. It also includes JSON-style schema sketches for the ranged subsystem so the rules can be translated into a digital implementation without inventing a separate mechanical interpretation.
Next Recommended Step
Run the focused ranged subsystem checks in Encounter Test Package: Tactical Distance and Movement, Targeting and Detection, and Resource Pressure. After that, do a ranged subsystem calibration pass to decide whether the new states create useful clarity or too much table friction, then simplify or formalize based on test results.
Future Adaptation Track
This track is downstream from setting canon. It should not add TTRPG material to setting documents, and it is not part of the world-building roadmap.
-
❏ Decide whether the TTRPG adaptation should initially cover the whole medieval Version 1 setting or a smaller playtest subset.
-
❏ Translate settled setting species, lineages, regions, institutions, magic limits, and social pressures into TTRPG options and procedures inside this shelf.
-
❏ Create player-facing summaries in this shelf only, drawing from setting documents without changing their canon voice.
-
❏ Create game-facing hooks, travel complications, factions, threats, and ordinary-life prompts in this shelf only.
-
❏ Run focused playtest checks for TTRPG subsystems after the relevant setting canon is stable enough to support them.
-
❏ Keep CRPG/data-model considerations documented separately from prose canon.
-
❏ Once the world-building roadmap reaches a stable medieval baseline, consider standing up a dedicated TTRPG roadmap document instead of tracking status here.
