The Nature of Imago’s Stewards
Stewards of Imago Prime are among the most intimate of the divine offices. They do not stand over kingdoms or storms. They stand over the self, the mask, the wound, and the possibility of becoming otherwise.
Their work is subtle but immense. They preserve the coherence of personhood while also protecting transformation from being reduced to chaos, coercion, or fragmentation.
Known Stewards
The Steward of Coherent Self
- Office: Preservation of identity through change
- Function: Protects continuity of selfhood through grief, injury, growth, revelation, and internal fracture
- Threat Opposed: Emptiness, imposed identities, and loss of personhood through fragmentation
The Steward of Sacred Metamorphosis
- Office: Governance of lawful becoming and transformative passage
- Function: Sanctifies real change so it becomes meaningful, integrated, and true rather than monstrous or arbitrary
- Threat Opposed: Forced mutation, false transformation, and sterile refusal to grow
Distinctive Character of Imago Stewardship
Imago’s Stewards are defined by paradox:
- Continuity and Change: They protect identity, but never in a static form.
- Truth and Vulnerability: To become true, a being must often be exposed.
- Becoming and Risk: Transformation is holy, but never safe.
Because of this, their offices are deeply psychological, spiritual, and often painful.
Relationship to Mortals
Mortals most often encounter the influence of Imago’s Stewards during:
- identity crises,
- initiations,
- profound healing,
- transitions of role, gender, vocation, or self-understanding,
- and moments when an old life can no longer contain who someone is becoming.
To many cultures, these Stewards might appear as mirrored judges, chrysalis saints, or keepers of true becoming.
Narrative Role
Stewards of Imago Prime are natural presences in stories about:
- identity,
- transformation,
- false selves,
- imposed roles,
- and the terrifying cost of becoming real.
They are especially suited to stories where growth is not comfortable, but necessary.
