The Lantern-Bearer

Origins and Birth

The Lantern-Bearer was born from the collective desperation of the people of Greyreach during the Shadow Blight.

Greyreach was a city built on secrets. The merchant lords bribed the judges, the bishops sold indulgences, and the thieves’ guilds operated with impunity. The truth was a commodity, bought and sold like grain. Then the Shadow Blight came—a magical corruption that fed on lies. The more a person deceived, the denser the shadows around them grew, until entire districts were swallowed in living darkness. Monsters bred in the gloom. People vanished.

The people did not pray for mercy or salvation; they prayed for truth. They begged for “light to see the liars,” for “a flame that burns away the false,” and for “someone to show us what is real.” They were willing to face the consequences of their own deceptions if it meant the Blight would end.

When a city chose survival through confession rather than denial, Lux condensed around that civic rupture. The Lantern-Bearer rose from it as unyielding revelation, carrying the doctrine that liberating truth is often painful before it is merciful.
