Overview

The Steward of Boundary preserves the truth that boundaries are necessary, but must remain lawful. This Steward governs the metaphysical integrity of walls, borders, containers, thresholds, and divisions that protect form without becoming absolute imprisonment.

In the current historical framework, this office is best understood as long-wounded rather than fallen. It still performs necessary work, but under a harsher reflex inherited from The Uneven Settling: protection through hard separation. Boundary therefore remains one of Terra’s most subtle offices, because every line it draws risks hardening into severity.

Appearance and Presence

The Steward appears as a towering gate-shaped figure of granite and dark metal, with a central opening where a torso should be.

• Visuals: Runes of treaty, closure, and passage glow across its frame, but some lines are worn deeper than others as if over-used.
• The Atmosphere: Nearby, lines become legible. One knows what is inside, outside, permitted, and forbidden, but the cost of crossing also feels heavier.
• The Voice: Its speech sounds like bolts sliding into place and gates opening at dawn.

Office and Mandate

Its office preserves rightful separation.

• It guards boundaries that prevent dissolution, contamination, invasion, and confusion of category.
• It opposes prisons disguised as protection.
• It preserves the possibility of passage through lawful thresholds.

Without this office, boundaries would swing between collapse and tyranny, with no lawful middle.
