The Nature of Terra’s Stewards
Stewards of Terra Prime hold some of the weightiest offices in the divine hierarchy. Their concerns are not local buildings or mere stonework, but the metaphysical foundations upon which existence can safely rest.
They preserve both:
- the supports that must remain habitable,
- and the boundaries that must define without becoming prisons.
This makes Terra’s Stewardship stern, conservative, and immensely consequential.
Known Stewards
The Steward of Bearable Foundations
- Office: Governance of habitable support and lawful release within the deep framework of reality
- Function: Guards supports, anchors, and load-bearing truths in forms life can actually bear
- Threat Opposed: Catastrophic collapse, false support, and the absolutized burden exemplified by the fallen older Foundations office
The Steward of Boundary
- Office: Governance of thresholds, lawful separation, and protected passage
- Function: Preserves boundaries that protect form without hardening into total enclosure
- Threat Opposed: Collapse of distinction, uncontrolled spill, and protection that mutates into over-separation
Distinctive Character of Terra Stewardship
Terra’s Stewards are marked by several tensions:
- Endurance and Release: They preserve what must hold, while acknowledging that not everything should be forced to endure unchanged.
- Protection and Confinement: A wall may defend, but it may also imprison.
- Structure and Burden: To support is to bear weight, and not all systems can bear what they claim to hold.
They embody Terra at its most architectural and morally demanding.
Relationship to Mortals
Mortals most often encounter the influence of Terra’s Stewards through:
- failing fortresses,
- oath-bound borders,
- foundations cracked by corruption,
- tombs and wards,
- and places where the line between shelter and cage becomes uncertain.
To mortal cultures, they might appear as gate-judges, keepers of stone law, or wardens of the world’s bones.
Narrative Role
Stewards of Terra Prime work especially well in stories about:
- what deserves to endure,
- what must be held together,
- when a boundary protects or suffocates,
- and how civilizations collapse when their foundations rot.
They are particularly strong presences in siege, law, inheritance, and sanctified architecture.
