Caeldon Early Contact
Overview
This document records the first major inter-civilizational contact field currently established on Caeldon.
Rough date range: c. 445,000-c. 2,000 BR.
It begins only after the earlier planetary ladder now established on this shelf: The Creation of Caeldon, The First Regional Differentiations of Caeldon, The First Material Lineages of Caeldon, the older species baseline described in The First Stabilizations on Caeldon, the newer branch-forming baseline steps now treated more directly in The Rooting of the Elderweald, The Holdmaking of the Ironspine, and The Gathering of the Confluence, and the first major ancestral civilizational foundings in The Founding of the Rootcrown Concord, The Founding of the Ironspine Holds, and The Founding of the Confluence Marches. From there it moves into the oldest durable Elven-Dwarven contact margins around The Elderweald and The Ironspine, passes through the deep-world catastrophe of , and later expands into the first major Human rise through The Confluence Marches, The Headwater Marches, and The Lower Serath.
It serves as the broad entry point to that field rather than as its only history page. The more focused documents on this shelf now split the same chronology into planetary bridge pages, species-baseline pages, ancestral civilizational founding pages, regional-prehistory pages, first-contact layers, internal branch histories, border and prestige-rivalry histories, corridor histories, and the deep-world rupture sequence.
Early Elven-Dwarven Field
The oldest stable contact field on Caeldon forms between the early Rootcrown Concord and the first enduring Dwarven hold cultures of the Ironspine.
This early field is shaped by mountain-forest margins, watersheds, extraction pressure, sacred geography, and different civilizational assumptions about how living landscapes and durable structures should be treated. Over long spans, that tension helps produce not only recurring Elven-Dwarven conflict, but also later branching inside the Elven world itself.
From the older Rootcrown field, the Thornbound Circles and the Crownbough Courts emerge as distinct responses to pressure, danger, and refinement. By the time the Crownbough world rises to major prominence, one of the oldest Caeldon rivalries already exists in multiple forms: woodland stewardship against extraction, courtly refinement against hold legitimacy, and deepening disputes over whose social order best expresses endurance.
That early field is treated in more focused form through The First Regional Differentiations of Caeldon, The First Material Lineages of Caeldon, The First Elven Stabilization, The Rooting of the Elderweald, The Founding of the Rootcrown Concord, The First Dwarven Stabilization, The Holdmaking of the Ironspine, The Founding of the Ironspine Holds, The Shaping of the Elderweald-Ironspine Margins, The First Rootcrown-Ironspine Contacts, The Elven Branchings, The Elderweald-Ironspine Frontier, The Founding of the Crownbough Courts, The First Crownbough-Ironspine Contacts, and The Courts of Stone and Canopy.
The Deep-World Rupture
The oldest underworld layer of this history hardens around The Roothollows and the catastrophe known as .
When that disaster floods, severs, and destabilizes the upper-underworld, Dark Elf survival below becomes the basis of the Gloamroot Covenant. At the same time, the deeper Stonewake Compact develops as one of the first major Dwarven deep-hold concentrations within the wider Ironspine world.
The result is not only a local territorial struggle. At sites such as The Rootstone Heartwell, catastrophe memory, refuge, route custody, infrastructural necessity, and sacred continuity become impossible to separate. This makes the Roothollow-Stonewake interface one of the oldest places in the setting where civilizational legitimacy and material survival become the same argument.
That deep branch is now treated in more modular form through The Shaping of the Roothollow-Stonewake Interface, The First Roothollow-Deep Contacts, The Roothollow Rupture, The Sealing of the Upper Roothollows, The Darkening of the Roothollows, The Deepening of Stonewake, The Founding of the Gloamroot Covenant, The Founding of the Stonewake Compact, , , and .
Human Rise and Wider Contact
Much later, Humans emerge and rise through the basin-frontier world of The Confluence Basins and The Headwater Marches.
The first major Human field, The Confluence Marches, grows through a combination of basin depth and frontier adaptability. Practical exchange with Dwarven powers in the Headwaters helps turn Human growth into durable corridor infrastructure, while pressure along the Elderweald margins creates the earliest sustained Human-Wood Elf conflict over settlement, water use, and living landscapes.
As internal Human differentiation grows, the Serathic League turns the Lower Serath into one of the earliest dense corridor orders in the Confluence world. Formal contact with the Crownbough Courts later adds a different layer of pressure: admiration, condescension, imitation, and rivalry between fast-changing Human powers and older refined High Elf courts.
That Human-facing branch is now treated in more focused form through The First Human Emergence on Caeldon, The Shaping of the Confluence-Headwater World, The Gathering of the Confluence, The Founding of the Confluence Marches, The Confluence Rise, The First Confluence-Elderweald Contacts, The First Headwater-Ironspine Contacts, The First Confluence-Crownbough Contacts, The Human Corridor Orders, The Headwater Alignments, The Headwater Exchange Roads, The Lower Serath Guarantees, The Founding of the Serathic League, The Headwater and Serath Corridors, The Elderweald Border Pressures, and .
Historical Significance
This first Caeldon contact field matters because it establishes the setting’s earliest durable multi-sided historical structure rather than a series of isolated origins.
The forest, mountain, basin, corridor, and underworld zones all remain distinct, but they no longer develop independently. Elven-Dwarven rivalry, Dark Elf catastrophe memory, Dwarven infrastructural legitimacy, Human corridor-building, and High Elf-Human prestige competition all grow within one connected system of regions, civilizations, and inherited pressures.
That makes this chronology the first strong bridge between the setting’s cosmic foundations and its later historical worldbuilding. It is the earliest point where Caeldon begins to read as a true historical world rather than only a planet with separate peoples placed upon it.
